FlySky FS-TH9x LiFe Battery Upgrade

I was going through HobbyKing a while back and noticed someone mention a LiFe battery back that would fit the Turnigy 9x transmitter perfectly, of course I have the FlySky transmitter and as much as everyone says they are the exact same, there are a lot of images with Turnigy transmitters looking a lot different then the one I have. I added it to my “wish list” and went about my way… a few weeks later I was back on HK again surfing about and noticed that particular battery was available within one of United States warehouses, so i purchased it along with some other stuff i “needed” and decided to give it a go and see if it works/fits.

The particular battery i ordered is the HobbyKing 1500mAH LiFe 3S 9.9v Transmitter pack and it is available through HobbyKings East, West and International warehouses currently.

The Battery’s specs are listed on HobbyKings website as :
Spec.
Capacity: 1500mAh
Voltage: 3S1P / 9.9v
Discharge: 1c
Weight: 118.8g (including wire, plug & case)
Dimensions: 102mm x 23mm x 28mm
Balance Plug: JST-XH
Discharge Plug: JR / Spectrum / Futaba

I was a bit concerned at the 9.9Volts compared to the stock battery harness and its 8xAA’s (8*1.5=12v) but time will only tell if it would be a problem or not.

In comparison to the stock AA bundle it does come up quite a bit smaller, which was quite a relief since the stock harness almost seemed too big for the battery compartment and it was kind of a fight to stuff it all inside there.

The weight savings is a good 98grams which my wrists and arms will appreciate in the long run. the stock 8 pack comes up at a healthy 209grams fully stocked with decently new LR6 AA Duracells, and the HK LiFe battery comes in at 111grams which is slightly under the specs rated on the website.

The Connectors had me worried for a bit, none of them matched up to the stick battery pack plug which was sort of like a 2S balance plug, but the one that ended up fitting was the black one that looks sort of like a servo plug.

The only down side is that with that plug in there it sticks out of the port just enough into the compartment that I cant lay the battery down into the compartment flat.

So instead the battery needs to be inserted into the battery compartment on its side as shown below, its not too big of a deal, and it allow room for the extra wires to be tucked behind the battery in the compartment and not have them loose.

The only problem I have now is to figure out how to both charge a LiFe battery with my Turnigy Accucell-6 charger since it doesn’t have any of the charge plugs that come with this battery, and i think I also need to change some settings on my charge to be able to charge a LiFe battery to the lower 9.9v levels, but ill leave that for another post until I can figure it out, document it, and take some photos so that I can share them with you.

If you want this battery you can get it on the Hobbyking website or also through Amazon
